Card Business Analyst should ensure the smooth execution of card-related projects and operations by bridging business needs and technical solutions. His key capabilities include.

1. Domain Expertise

  • Deep understanding of the card lifecycle: Issuance, Activation, Usage, and Closure.
  • Knowledge of Credit, Debit, Prepaid, and Corporate Card products.
  • Familiarity and worked with card schemes (e.g., MasterCard, Visa, Amex, UnionPay) and their compliance requirements.

2. Requirement Gathering and Analysis

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Conducting gap analysis between current processes and desired outcomes.
  • Drafting detailed business requirement documents (BRDs) and functional specifications.

3. Technical Proficiency

  • Understanding card management systems (CMS) and their integration with banking channels like IVR, ATMs, and Digital Banking.
  • Familiarity with APIs, file formats (ISO 8583, XML, JSON), and system integration for card issuance and settlement processes.
  • Knowledge of encryption and tokenization methods for secure card transactions.

4. Process Optimization

  • Identifying inefficiencies in existing card operations and proposing solutions to streamline processes.
  • Developing workflows for card-related operations, including onboarding, embossing, e-statements, and customer servicing.

5. Project Management

  • Managing timelines, deliverables, and risks for card-related projects.
  • Coordinating between IT, Operations, Vendors, and Business teams to ensure project success.
  • Prioritizing tasks based on business impact and regulatory timelines.

6. Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensuring all card processes comply with regulatory standards and card scheme mandates.
  • Supporting risk assessments related to card issuance, transactions, and data storage.

7. Vendor and Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Working with card personalization vendors and payment processors to ensure seamless implementation.
  • Managing vendor contracts and performance for card-related services.

8. Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Generating and analyzing reports on card performance metrics like spend volume, delinquency rates, and activation trends.
  • Utilizing data insights to recommend improvements in card offerings.

9. Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Designing and executing test cases for card issuance, integration, and transactions.
  • Verifying that the implemented solutions align with the defined requirements.

10. Customer Focus

  • Supporting initiatives to enhance customer experience, such as mobile wallets, virtual cards, and contactless payments.
  • Providing feedback to design teams for improvements in card-related customer journeys
